Loonie Financial: Overview
Loonie Financial is an online lender offering installment loans of $300 to $1,000, repaid over 62 to 160 days in 3, 6 or 12 payments. There is no credit check, and approved loans are usually deposited the same day.
It advertises a maximum APR of 32%. Its own cost example does not match that number, and that gap is the most important thing to understand before you apply.
Is Loonie Financial Legit?
It is a real business that lends real money, but it does not give you the usual ways to check it. Loonie Financial operates from the Mohawk Territory of Kahnawake in Quebec, and its terms say your loan is governed by the laws of Kahnawake rather than those of your province. Its site does not publish a provincial lending licence number, and it does not name the company behind the brand beyond saying the site is "powered by Speedy King".
Independent feedback is thin and mostly negative. Its Trustpilot profile scores 2.0 out of 5, with most reviews at one star.
Are You The Right Borrower For Loonie Financial?
Loonie Financial can fit if:
- Your credit has shut you out elsewhere - There is no credit check. Approval runs on your income and your bank account instead.
- You need more than one payday to pay it back - The shortest term is 62 days, split into installments that follow your pay schedule.
- You have checked the full cost in writing - Read the total repayment amount in your agreement before you sign, not the APR on the website.

What We Verified
Last checked 26 Oct 2026What They Offer
One product: a short installment loan for people who get paid by direct deposit.
Installment Loan
Up to 32% APR advertisedA small loan repaid in 3, 6 or 12 payments that line up with your paydays, taken from your account by pre-authorized debit.
The site is not consistent about loan size. The application form offers $300 to $1,000, the fine print says $200 to $1,000, and the FAQ says up to $2,000. Go by the amount in your loan agreement.
Loan Features
- No credit check - Loonie Financial does not use credit bureau scores to decide, so applying will not affect your score.
- Payments follow your paydays - You repay in 3, 6 or 12 installments scheduled around when you are paid.
- One payment can be deferred - You can push back one payment per loan, but not the first or the last. Ask by email before the payment is due.
- Discounts for returning customers - A rewards program lowers the cost of renewals, and a referral program pays cash for sending friends.
How Fast You Get Your Money
| Stage | How long it takes |
|---|---|
| Filling in the application | About 5 minutes, online |
| Bank verification | Instant, through an online banking login |
| Approval decision | Usually within minutes |
| Getting the money | Usually the same day, up to 24 hours |
| How it arrives | Direct deposit (EFT) |
An agent may call you if something in your application needs checking, and Loonie Financial says it may call your employer to confirm the number without mentioning the loan.
Who Qualifies
| Requirement | What you need |
|---|---|
| Employment | A steady job for the past 6 months |
| Pay | Paid by direct deposit |
| Income not accepted | ODSP, the Canada Child Benefit and CPP |
| Age | 18 or older |
| Residency | Canadian citizen |
| Identification | Photo ID, plus a pay stub or utility bill if your details do not match |
| Credit check | None |
The income rules are narrower than they look. If your money comes from disability support, CPP or child benefits, you will not qualify however much it is.
How To Apply
What A Loonie Financial Loan Costs
Loonie Financial's own example is a $500 loan that costs $160 in interest, so you repay $660. It says that is based on its maximum APR of 32%.
Those two numbers do not fit together. Spread over the longest term, 12 payments across 160 days, $160 of interest on $500 works out to about 125% APR on our maths. Over the shortest term it is far higher. A true 32% APR on $500 over five months would cost you less than $40.
| Repayment plan for $500 | Each payment | You repay | APR this works out to |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 payments over 62 days | $220 | $660 | About 270% |
| 6 payments over 160 days | $110 | $660 | About 117% |
| 12 payments over 160 days | $55 | $660 | About 125% |
Note
These numbers are for illustrative purposes only. Actual numbers may vary.
Your agreement must show the total you will repay. Compare that figure, not the advertised APR. A missed payment brings an insufficient funds fee of about $45, and unpaid balances accrue interest at 2.66% a month.
Is Loonie Financial Licensed?
Most online lenders in our directory hold a licence in each province they lend in and print the number on their site. Loonie Financial instead says its loans are governed by the laws of Kahnawake, and its site does not list the provinces it serves. It lends everywhere in Canada except Quebec.
That matters if something goes wrong. Your province's consumer protection office is normally where you would take a complaint about a lender, and its rules on costs and collections are what protect you. Before you sign, ask Loonie Financial which licence covers a loan in your province, and check it with your provincial regulator. In Ontario, for example, that is Consumer Protection Ontario.
Loonie Financial Pros
- No credit check - A poor or thin credit file will not stop you, and applying will not move your score.
- Same-day funding - Most approved loans are deposited the same day.
- Longer than a payday loan - 62 to 160 days in installments, rather than one lump sum on your next payday.
- One deferral allowed - You can move one payment per loan if you ask in time.
- A phone line - You can call 1-833-423-2208 as well as email.
Loonie Financial Cons
- The cost example does not match the APR - $160 on a $500 loan is far more than 32% a year over any of its terms.
- No licence number published - Loans are governed by Kahnawake law, and the site does not say which provinces it is licensed in.
- Poor independent reviews - 2.0 out of 5 on Trustpilot. Complaints mention fees, hard-to-reach staff and unexpected withdrawals.
- Benefit income does not count - ODSP, CPP and child benefits are excluded.
- Conflicting loan limits - The site gives three different ranges, from $200 up to $2,000.
- Your employer may get a call - To confirm your job, without mention of the loan.

A Cash Advance App
Cash advance apps front you a few hundred dollars against pay you have not received yet. Instead of interest you pay a small monthly membership, there is no credit check, and the advance comes off your next pay automatically. Limits usually start between $100 and $500, so they will not cover $1,000, but for a smaller gap they almost always cost less.
