We’re excited to announce the winner of our Loans Canada Financial Literacy Scholarship for Spring 2021. Helping Canadian students meet both their financial and educational goals will continue to be a priority of ours, especially given the many difficulties students have faced in the past year.

We are thrilled to announce that the winner of our Spring 2021 Financial Literacy Scholarship is Eden Lauren, who is working on a Social Service Worker Diploma at Langara College.

Loans Canada Scholarship Winner

About Eden

We asked Eden to explain how her financial literacy has helped her meet both her education and financial goals.

Financial literacy has given me the ability to effectively utilize financial skills such as budgeting so that I could save enough money to access higher education. Without financial literacy, I would not have been able to afford post-secondary and pursue my dream of becoming a social worker on the downtown east side. I come from a family who has struggled with poverty, homelessness, addiction and intergenerational trauma. I was lucky enough to have strong Aboriginal women who made sure I did not go through some of these hardships firsthand. Therefore I feel that it is my responsibility to give back to my community and break the cycle by pursuing post-secondary education and a career in social work. However, without financial literacy, I would not have been able to achieve this dream of receiving higher education and a career in social work. Overall financial literacy has been a blessing and it has made my relationship with money a positive experience.
