It’s not uncommon for students to need a little extra help with their classes.

But tutoring can be expensive, especially for students who may not have the financial resources to cover these costs.

Luckily, there are alternatives to traditional tutoring services. Online platforms like Chegg can provide the support and resources needed to not only improve grades but even get access to more affordable textbooks and other helpful resources.

But as helpful as Chegg may be, it may not always be a needed service. Whether you’re pausing your studies over the summer, graduating soon, or simply can no longer afford your subscription, you may want to cancel or pause your Chegg subscription.

What Is Chegg?

Chegg is an online learning platform that started out as an education technology firm focused on accessibility and affordability. It has now grown to help students throughout their entire educational journey and beyond. Not only can students enhance their academic experience, but they can also shape other areas of life with the interactions and tools through Chegg.

Connect With Tutors

Students can connect with tutors through a paid subscription without the sky-high costs associated with traditional tutoring. Chegg is designed to ensure that students maximize the time invested in tutoring. This means they can learn as much as possible in the shortest amount of time, all at an affordable cost.

Find Affordable Textbooks

The platform also offers several other services and products that help support students with various needs. Including connecting students with access to cheap textbooks and ebooks. There’s also a free flashcard app to help students with their studies, practice problems, and get a better grasp on course material.

Get Real Work Guidance

Chegg also offers guidance on the real world, including health and wellness, financial responsibilities, and general life skills. The company’s goal is to help students do their best in school and in life after formal education. Their services are available online, 24 hours a day.

How To Cancel Your Chegg Subscription

If you’d like to permanently part with Chegg, there are a few ways to cancel your subscription, depending on how you purchased it.

On A Desktop Computer

To cancel your Chegg subscription from your computer, follow these steps:

  • Log in to your Chegg account
  • Click on Orders
  • Under the Subscriptions tab, scroll to Chegg Study Pack and click on Cancel subscription
  • Choose a reason why you’re cancelling
  • Confirm your cancellation

Your subscription will now be cancelled and you will no longer be billed. You can still continue to access Chegg Study Pack for the rest of the billing period.

Through iTunes Or Google Play

If you bought your Chegg subscription through iTunes or Google Play, then you’ll only be able to cancel your subscription through those platforms.

Cancel With iTunes

  • On your mobile phone, go to Settings, tap on your name, then tap on iTunes & App Store
  • Tap your Apple ID, then View Apple ID
  • Scroll down to and tap on Subscriptions
  • Tap Subscription – Manage and choose Chegg Study
  • Turn auto-renewal off
  • Tap Done

Cancel With Google Play

  • Go to Settings, then go to the Google Play Account
  • Select the Subscriptions option
  • Tap on the Chegg application
  • Tap on Cancel
  • Confirm the subscription cancellation and click Cancel

How To Pause My Chegg Subscription

Perhaps you’re not quite ready to part ways with Chegg altogether, but you still don’t want to continue paying for the service, for the time being. In this case, it’s possible to simply pause your subscription.

Follow these steps to pause your Chegg subscription:

  • On your desktop or laptop computer, log in to your account
  • Click on Orders
  • Under the Subscriptions tab, scroll to Chegg Study and click on Pause subscription
  • Choose how long you’d like to pause your subscription (no longer than 6 months)

Once the pause period ends, your subscription will automatically reactivate. If you wish to resume your subscription. Click Resume subscription on your Orders page on a desktop or laptop computer, before the end of the pause period.

If you manually resume your subscription, you’ll be charged a pro-rated fee for the current billing cycle. The normal monthly rate will then continue.

Keep in mind that pausing your Chegg subscription from a web browser won’t suspend your billing if you bought your subscription through iTunes or Google Play. You’ll need to go through the appropriate avenue to pause your subscription, similar to the steps taken to cancel as detailed above.

What If I Can’t Afford My Chegg Subscription?

It can be tough for students to scrounge together even a few dollars every month. While Chegg’s subscriptions are affordable compared to traditional tutoring services. The costs can still be a bit too much for students to cover. If you can’t afford your Chegg subscription, you can do one of the following:

Check Chegg For Coupons

Perhaps shaving a few dollars off your monthly payment to Chegg might make your subscription easier to budget for. Check the Chegg coupons page on occasion to see if there are any coupon codes available.

Pause Your Subscription

You can put a pause on your payments if you don’t want to continue paying for your subscription, but aren’t quite ready to cancel altogether. You can resume your subscription at any time if you change your mind.

Cancel Your Subscription

You can cancel your Chegg subscription at any time if you no longer have a need for the service or can’t afford the payments.

Use A Low-Interest Rate Credit Card

Consider applying for a credit card with a low-interest rate, or at least one with a low introductory rate. You can use the card to cover your Chegg subscription costs, then make minimum payments without breaking the bank to pay your balance. If you carry a balance month-to-month, you won’t incur too much interest with a low-rate card.

That said, it’s still recommended that you pay as much as you can above the minimum amount to avoid accumulating too much credit card debt and accruing an increasing amount of interest.

You may also want to check your credit score before applying for a credit card. Many creditors do a hard credit check to verify your creditworthiness. It’s helpful to know what your credit score is to see where you stand with creditors. You can check your credit score for free with CompareHub by Loans Canada.

If you have bad credit or no credit at all, look for low-rate cards that don’t require excellent credit. Or, apply for a student credit card.
