Need a credit card that allows you to earn cash back, build credit, and conveniently shop at big-box retailers like Costco? You’ve got some great options, including the KOHO Prepaid Mastercard and CIBC Costco Mastercard.

KOHO’s card is a prepaid credit card that is designed to help you keep your credit card debt in check, while Costco’s new card comes with a few extra perks that allow you to earn sizable rewards with every expenditure you make.

Each card is a little different, so let’s dig a little deeper into both of them to help you determine which one works best for you.

KOHO Prepaid Mastercard

The KOHO Prepaid Mastercard is a reloadable, prepaid card that you can use much like a conventional credit card, except your funds are already loaded onto your account. This way, you can better control your spending and keep your debt levels in check.

Simply fund your account through an Interac e-transfer to your KOHO account or by depositing your paycheque to the card. Then, you can use the card to make purchases as you would use a regular credit card.

With the KOHO Prepaid Mastercard, you can earn rewards on all purchases and extra cash back with eligible merchants. Moreover, since this card is a Mastercard, it can be used anywhere that Mastercard is accepted, including Costco. There are also no fees associated with this card unless you upgrade your card for added perks.

Price Match

Send KOHO your receipts for your recent purchases and they’ll check to see if the price drops or if it’s selling for a lower price elsewhere. If so, KOHO will help you recoup the difference and credit it to your account.

Build Your Credit

KOHO offers two Credit Building Programs, Credit Building and Flexible Credit Building.

KOHO’s Credit Building is a credit-building line of credit that you can sign up for in the KOHO app. It costs $5, $7, or $10 a month and users can stay opted in for as many months as they need.

Each month your payment is automatically withdrawn from your account and KOHO will report it to one of the credit bureaus. This will help you build a positive payment and credit history, which in turn can help you build credit.

KOHO’s Flexible Credit Building is a secured line of credit that you can also sign up for in the KOHO app. Users will need to set aside $30 to $500 within their KOHO accounts to act as security for the line of credit. There is also a $5 monthly service fee, that users must pay. Once the line of credit is active, you can make purchases and repay what is owed each month. These payments are reported to a credit bureau and can help you build a healthy credit history.

Referral Bonus

Get $20 after a friend you refer signs up with KOHO and makes their first purchase within 30 days of registering an account. Plus, they’ll get $20 too.
