Aeroplan credit cards are credit cards that give airline rewards points to Canadians when used. Currently, there are several Aeroplan credit cards competing for your business and offering tempting sign-up bonuses to gain your attention. By applying for any of the following credit cards, you can take advantage of their attractive sign-up bonuses and be able to accumulate even more Aeroplan points.

How Much Are Aeroplan Points Worth?

Aeroplan points vary in value depending on what you use them for. For example, with the CIBC cards you can redeem:

  • 6,500 Aeroplan points for a $50 Gift Card which equals $0.008 per point.
  • 15,000 Aeroplan points for a One-Way short-haul flight in economy class on Air Canada. Depending on where you go, flights can cost anything between $99 to $800 or more. As such, the value you get for each point ($0.006 – $0.05 per point) will differ.

A good way for you to evaluate the value of your Aeroplan points is by dividing the number of points you redeem against the price of the item you redeem.

Everything you need to know about the new Aeroplan program.

How To Choose The Best Aeroplan Credit Card?

When it comes to choosing the best Aeroplan credit card for your unique needs, these are the top five factors you should consider.

  1. Bonus size. Always wait for an Aeroplan bonus involving 25,000 miles not only 15,000 points. Waiting for a unique and profitable deal will be worth it.
  2. Welcome bonuses. Make sure to choose the deal with the lowest spending requirement, if not, make sure you have the time and means to pay off your credit card.
  3. Is the annual fee waived? While most credit cards that offer Aeroplan rewards charge annual fees, you should always look for deals where the annual fee is waived.
  4. Can you transfer the points? Take a look at other credit card reward programs that allow users to transfers other types of points into Aeroplan points.
  5. How do you earn points? Every credit card offers more points on certain spending categories. Depending on how you use your credit card, one may be able to earn you more Aeroplan points than another.

Aeroplan FAQs

What is Aeroplan?

Aeroplan is a travel loyalty program in Canada that allows you to earn and redeem Aeroplan points on travel and non-travel-related products or services.

How much are Aeroplan points worth?

The value of your points will vary depending on what you choose to redeem your points for. In general, flights and travel-related costs will garner you a much higher value than non-travel-related purchases. Moreover, if you book your flights far in advance and are flexible with your dates, you can be sure to get the most out of your Aeroplan points.

Do Aeroplan points expire?

If your account is completely inactive, meaning you haven’t earned or redeemed any points, you’ll have 18 months before they expire. However, you can buy back your expired points for 1 cent per point through Aeroplan’s website.

Can I book a flight with any airline using Aeroplan points?

You can use your Aeroplan points to book any flight on Air Canada, United Airlines, Air China or any of the other 26 airlines on the Star Alliance Network.

Bottom Line

If you travel frequently or are looking to make it a priority, Aeroplan points are a great way to offset the cost of airfare. Any of the above Aeroplan credit cards can help you accumulate Aeroplan points even faster, especially those that offer bonus sign-up miles. Be sure to consider your spending habits, personality, and income when choosing your Aeroplan card. Additionally, check the minimum income and spending requirement as that can affect your ability to get the card and its bonuses.
