Types Of Travel Insurance Available In Credit Cards

There are all sorts of different areas of coverage that may come with travel insurance, including the following:

Trip Interruption Insurance

If you’re in the middle of a vacation and something happens that requires the trip to be cut short, a travel interruption insurance policy will provide coverage for specific expenses. Trip interruption insurance takes effect as soon as your trip begins and ends when you return.

Trip Cancellation Insurance

Trip cancellation insurance will reimburse you for fees already paid if something happens leading up to your trip that requires you to cancel. This type of insurance takes effect as soon as you take it out and ends when you depart.

Travel Accident Insurance

This type of insurance provides coverage for an accident causing injury or death while travelling on a carrier, such as a plane, train, bus, or boat.

Travel Medical Insurance

Medical expenses that you incur when travelling abroad may be covered by a travel medical insurance policy.

Flight Delay Insurance

If your flight is delayed for whatever reason, you may be reimbursed for certain expenses, such as hotel fees and meals.

Lost Or Delayed Baggage

The cost of any necessary items that have to be bought because of lost or delayed baggage may be reimbursed with this type of insurance coverage.

Car Rental Theft And Damage Insurance

If you rent a car on your trip and it’s damaged or stolen, a car rental theft/damage insurance policy can help cover the costs you may owe to the rental company.

Hotel Burglary Insurance

This type of insurance may cover any of your belongings that are stolen from your hotel room.

Advantages Of Credit Cards With Travel Insurance

There are a couple perks of having a credit card with travel insurance:

Cheaper Than Travel Insurance

Perhaps the biggest and most obvious perk to a credit card with travel insurance is the fact that you likely will not have to purchase a separate policy to keep you covered while travelling. Instead, everything you need is included with your annual fee, unless you require more in-depth coverage than what your credit card’s policy offers.

Earn Points

Credit cards often offer some form of rewards system that allows cardholders to earn points with every dollar spent.

Easy Online Shopping

Credit cards make shopping online and booking travel possible.

Exclusive Travel Perks

Some credit cards offer VIP-level perks, including access to VIP airport lounges, and discounts on car rentals.

Factors To Consider When Getting Credit Cards With Travel Insurance

While there are certainly some perks that come with having a credit card with travel insurance, there are also some factors to consider before applying:

What Are The Card’s Coverage Limitations?

Make sure the credit card you have offers as much coverage as you’d like. Otherwise, you may end up having to take out a separate policy, which can cost you.

Does Coverage Only Cover The Cardholder?

While some credit cards offer coverage for you as a cardholder and your immediate family travelling with you, others may only exclusively cover the cardholder.

Are Pre-Existing Conditions Covered?

Like other types of travel or life insurance, a credit card travel medical insurance policy may not cover you for issues related to a pre-existing condition

Does The Company Offer 24/7 Customer Service?

It would be extremely helpful if there was round-the-clock assistance available when travelling abroad, especially in an emergency situation.

Are You Eligible For The Card’s Travel Insurance?

Even though the credit card you carry offers travel insurance, it’s possible that you may not be eligible. For example, you may be over the age of 65, which is often the limit for coverage. In this case, you may have to pay for coverage that applies to those over that age limit.

Final Thoughts

If you travel frequently and don’t like the idea of always having to take out (and pay for) a travel insurance policy, then it might make sense for you to apply for a credit card that comes with travel insurance. Just make sure the card’s coverage is ample enough to suit your needs. Fortunately, several options are available for you to choose from.

Medical Insurance Credit Card FAQs

How do you make a medical travel insurance claim?

Get in touch with your insurance provider to inform them of the situation and get started filing a claim immediately. Typically, you want to contact them before you seek medical attention (if safe). Or at the very least, no later than 24 after the incident. This will help ensure that you receive full coverage. If you wait too long, you may find yourself with limited compensation or a denied claim altogether.

Are there any credit cards with travel insurance and no annual fee?

Typically, you will not find a no annual fee credit card that comes with travel insurance. You may, however, find a credit card that offers an annual fee rebate for the first year, as well as travel insurance.

Who’s covered by credit card travel insurance?

This depends on the credit card. Certain cards may only cover the primary cardholder and any supplementary cardholders. Other cards may offer travel medical insurance for the primary cardholder, their spouse, and their dependents.

Neo Credit and Neo Secured Credit cards are issued by Neo Financial™ pursuant to license by Mastercard International Incorporated.
