There are many different media streaming services you can subscribe to nowadays, but summer is right around the corner, which usually means less time for binge-watching. In that case, cancelling some of those subscriptions can save you money for other things. For instance, even though Apple TV has great content, the membership fees can add up fast, especially if you subscribe to multiple streaming services as I do. So, if you’re thinking about cancelling your Apple TV subscription, here’s a guide to show you how to cancel Apple TV.

What Is Apple TV?

Apple TV is one of the most popular streaming platforms in North America. They offer tons of Apple Original shows and movies, as well as the ability to rent and buy non-Apple content online. You can browse all of their available programming on an Apple TV+ device, using the Apple TV app or Apple TV+ tab, or by logging into tv.apple.com.

It’s easy to sign up and get a 7-day free trial. Here are just a few of the Original movies and shows that I like to watch (and that you might have heard of) on Apple TV:

  • Ted Lasso
  • CODA
  • Greyhound
  • Shrinking
  • The Morning Show
  • Black Bird
  • For All Mankind
  • Mythic Quest
  • Severance

How To Cancel Apple TV

Cancelling your Apple TV subscription is simple. Just go online and follow these steps:

  1. Head to tv.apple.com
  2. Log into your Apple account using your Apple ID. You can do so, by clicking the account icon or “Sign In” button.
  3. Go to the “Settings” page
  4. Scroll down to “Subscriptions”, then click or tap “Manage”
  5. Click the “Cancel Subscription” button to cancel Apple TV

How Much Does Apple TV Cost?

As mentioned, you can sign up for a 7-day free trial to see if you enjoy the content on Apple TV. Afterward, the monthly fee depends on the type of subscription you choose:

  • A regular Apple TV subscription is $6.99 a month (after your free trial ends)
  • If you buy an Apple device, you automatically get 3 months of Apple TV for free
  • The Apple Music Student Plan also includes a free Apple TV subscription
  • Apple One (which bundles up to 5 Apple Services in one monthly subscription) comes with free Apple TV too, in exchange for the following rates:
  • Individual = $18.95/month
  • Family = $24.95/month
  • Premier = $37.95/month

How Much Can You Save A Year By Canceling Apple TV?

A regular Apple TV subscription will cost you $6.99 a month, for a total of $83.88 a year (12 × $6.99), not including taxes. However, if you subscribe to Apple One, you’ll pay:

  • Individual = $227.40/year
  • Family = $299.40/year
  • Premier = $455.40/year

Where Should You Use The Money Saved From Canceling Apple TV?

Despite all the fun programs you can watch on Apple TV, you’ll save at least $83 a year by cancelling your subscription. Here’s what you can do with that extra money:

Put It Toward An Emergency Fund

No matter where or how you live, having an emergency fund is extremely important for dealing with unexpected costs, such as repairs to your home or car. Even if you just want some extra money to pay for your education, go on a trip, or buy a new appliance, a rainy-day fund can help.

Pay Off Your Credit Cards

Paying your credit card bills is a good way to save money on interest and other debt-related fees. Plus, it lowers your debt-to-credit ratio, which is a common factor that many lenders used to calculate credit scores. Generally, the lower your debt-to-credit ratio is, the better it is for your credit score.

This can be extremely beneficial as your credit score can play a vital role in your ability to secure a loan.

Pay Off My Other Debts

Your debt-to-income ratio is also a common factor used by lenders when they assess your creditworthiness. The less debt you have, the more money you’ll have available to pay other debts

This can help you qualify for credit products in the future, including personal loans and lines of credit, as well as better terms and interest rates.

How To Cancel Apple TV Subscriptions Through The App Store or iTunes

You can also easily unsubscribe from Apple TV through the App Store or iTunes by:

  1. Tapping the account icon
  2. Logging into your Apple or iTunes account
  3. Choosing “Subscriptions” or “Manage Subscriptions”
  4. Tapping or clicking the Apple TV+ entry
  5. Selecting “Cancel Subscription”, then “Confirm” to complete the cancellation

How To Cancel Other Apple Subscriptions

While Apple TV is one of Apple’s top sellers, they offer a number of other multimedia services, such as Apple Music, Apple Arcade, Apple Fitness, and iCloud+. You can cancel those subscriptions at any time, without penalty, using the methods below.

How To Unsubscribe From The Apple App

In general, you can cancel any Apple service subscription using the Apple app:

  1. Tap the account icon
  2. Sign into your Apple account
  3. Choose “Subscriptions” or “Manage Subscriptions”
  4. Tap or click the Apple TV+ entry
  5. Choose “Cancel Subscription”, followed by “Confirm”

How To Cancel Subscriptions From Your iPhone or iPad

If you have an iPhone or iPad, you can unsubscribe from different Apple services by:

  1. Opening the Settings app
  2. Tapping your name, then “Subscriptions”
  3. Choosing the subscription you wish to cancel
  4. Selecting “Cancel Subscription”.

You may need to scroll down to find the “Cancel Subscription” option. If that button isn’t there or you see a red expiration notice, your subscription has already been cancelled.

How To Cancel Your Apple Music Subscription

If you wish to unsubscribe from Apple Music, follow these steps:

  1. Go online to music.apple.com
  2. Choose “Sign In” at the top of the page (skip this step if you don’t see “Sign In”)
  3. Click or tap the account icon
  4. Go to “Settings”
  5. Scroll down to “Subscriptions” and select “Manage”
  6. Click or tap “Cancel Subscription”

Thinking About Canceling Your Apple TV Subscription?

Even though Apple TV+ has tons of Original shows, movies, and non-Apple content, the membership fees can get expensive over time. In the end, cancelling your subscription should be about saving money and simplifying (or amplifying) your financial life. When I watch TV and movies, I definitely don’t want to be worried about breaking the bank.

Apple Subscription FAQs

Can I share my Apple TV subscription?

Yes! You’re allowed to share your Apple TV subscription with up to 5 family members by setting up “Family Sharing”. Just follow these instructions on your Apple device:
  • On a Mac computer, click on “System Preferences”, then “Family Sharing”. Once that’s done, simply agree to the purchase responsibility.
  • On an iOS device choose “Settings”, followed by your name, “Family Sharing”, and “Add a Family Member”, then tap the channels to share. Next, click or tap “Family Sharing” and “TV Channels” to ensure Apple TV is on your sharing list.

Why can’t I cancel a subscription on my iPhone?

Unfortunately, you can’t cancel a subscription on your iPhone unless you originally bought through the App Store and linked it to your Apple ID account. Once you’ve done that, you can cancel your Apple services by simply going to your settings app and clicking subscriptions. There you can choose which subscriptions you’d like to cancel.

Who can I contact to help me cancel my Apple subscription?

If you’re having trouble unsubscribing from an Apple service, contact Apple support via online chat messaging or phone at 1-800-692-7753 (800-MY-APPLE). For any other information, questions, or problems, all the other ways to contact Apple are listed here.
