Do you own a vehicle? If so, you may be able to use it to make some extra cash. Thanks to the emergence of the gig economy, there are plenty of ways to earn an income, including with your car.

Read on to discover some of the more popular apps available that pay you for use of your vehicle in a variety of ways.

How To Make Money Driving Your Car

If you have a car — or at least access to one — you can use the following strategies to earn some extra money:

  • Advertising on it
  • Renting it out
  • Delivering food
  • Driving others

Let’s go into a little more detail about each monetization tactic and the platforms that can help.

You’ve probably seen vehicles on roadways with company logos and slogans plastered on them. Odds are, you probably just assumed the people driving these cars are the owners or employees of such companies. But that might not always be the case.

These days, you can get paid to drive your car around town with advertisements plastered on your vehicle. You literally don’t have to do any work — simply drive to wherever you have to go and let your vehicle and the advertisement do the work for you. You won’t get paid very much, but this tactic doesn’t require you to dedicate any time or effort.

Here are a few platforms available that will pay you to use your vehicle as a mobile advertisement.

What is rideshare car insurance and do you need it?

Wrapify

Wrapify

Wrapify offers drivers the chance to make extra cash by wrapping their vehicles in advertisements. You have the freedom to choose the advertiser and the look of your car, such as partial, full, or panel wrap covering. Plans range from 3 months to 1-year contracts.

Payments are as follows:

  • Lite coverage: $196-250/month
  • Partial coverage: $196-250/month
  • Full coverage: $264-452/month

Drivertise

Drivertise

Drivertise pays drivers to put commercial messaging on their vehicles. Your car will need to be in good condition, and your driving record should be relatively clean.

Drivertise pays as follows:

  • Rear window: $70/month
  • Rear window and 4 doors: $130/month
  • Half wrap: $170/month
  • Full wrap: $250/month

Carvertise

Carvertise

When you apply to advertise other businesses with Carvertise, you’ll be matched to a specific brand. Your car will then be wrapped with advertisements according to your specifications.

Drivers can make anywhere from $350 to $1,500 per campaign. Payments are made once a month. Once the campaign is complete, the wraps are removed from your car.

Are you a gig worker in Canada? These are the tax tips you need.

Rent Your Car To Make Money

If you have a car, odds are it’s parked for a good portion of the time. During these downtimes, why not rent it out to others in exchange for cash? With the following platforms, you can rent your car out to make some extra money.

Turo

Turo

Turo is the world’s largest peer-to-peer car-sharing company that lets car owners rent out their vehicles. It’s available in more than 56 countries, including Canada.

You can list your vehicle for free and earn 70% to 80% of the cost of each trip if the renter pays the fee. Share your car with other drivers when you don’t need it and earn an average of $620 each month.

Here’s how it works:

  1. List your car for free.
  2. Set your price and rules, or let Turo automatically adjust the price to help you maximize earnings.
  3. Confirm where and how to give the keys to the renter before the trip.
  4. Check the renter in with the Turo app.

You’ll earn 70% of the price of the trip and will be paid by direct deposit within 3 days following the trip.

Drivers are covered with $2 million in liability insurance. Otherwise, you can boost your payments to 80% of the trip price by waiving this policy if you already have commercial rental insurance. You’ll also get reimbursed for fuel and any mileage over your limit.

Getaround

Getaround

Similar to Turo, Getaround is a carsharing program that lets you rent your car out to another driver whenever you don’t need it. Or, take things a step further and start a carsharing business.

You can use a car you already own, or start building a small fleet of vehicles that you can use to rent out. You can use your earnings to re-invest into your business as you see fit.

Getaround offers innovative technology that allows you to track your earnings performance. Drivers are screened and verified for safety purposes and are limited to 200 miles per day. When this limit is exceeded, they’ll pay extra fees.

Getaround comes with 24/7 roadside assistance and up to $1 million in insurance coverage.
