There are many reasons to buy and use a good credit card. Whether you’re primarily using it to make simple purchases, earn cash-back dollars, or take advantage of travel benefits, there are sure to be plenty of different cards on the market for you in Canada.

The only problem is that different credit cards come with different rewards, costs, and conditions, so it can be tough to pinpoint the one that will work best for your lifestyle. Luckily, the Rogers World Elite Mastercard can offer you all those perks and more.

Earning Rewards With The Rogers World Elite Mastercard

The Rogers World Elite Mastercard is a no-annual-fee rewards card that offers up various travel, insurance, and security benefits to qualified users. As mentioned, this card comes with many notable starter features, including but not limited to:

  • Welcome Bonus – If you make your first purchase within 3 months of receiving your World Elite Mastercard, you’ll get a bonus of $25 in cash back rewards.
  • Cash Back Rewards – With this credit card, you can earn a 1.5% unlimited cash back dollar rate on eligible purchases that are made in Canadian dollars (CAD).
  • U.S. Cash Back Rewards – When you use this card to make eligible purchases in U.S. dollars (USD), you will also earn 3% unlimited cash back rewards.

Check out why you should be cautious of credit card rewards.

Rogers World Elite Mastercard Perks

Before you apply for any sort of credit card, don’t forget that its specific costs, terms, and conditions are set by the lender (Rogers Bank), not the actual provider. That said, here are some of the other general benefits and features that you can qualify for when you sign up for the Rogers World Elite Mastercard and use it to make eligible purchases:

Travel Benefits

  • Airport Lounge Access – Free admittance to more than 1,000 LoungeKey airport lounges in over 100 countries through Mastercard Airport Experiences.
  • Airport WiFi Access – As a Mastercard Cardholder, you’ll also get a free membership to Boingo Wifi at more than 1 million hotspots across the globe.
  • Cash Rebates – With the Mastercard Travel Rewards program, you can earn automatic cash rebates and offers online or at participating merchants.

  • Rental Car Theft & Damage Coverage – Of course, this type of Mastercard insurance protects you when you’re driving eligible rental vehicles.
  • Purchase Protection – This insurance policy covers qualifying products that are lost or damaged within 90 days of the date they were purchased.
  • Extended Warranty – If an eligible item has an expired manufacturer’s warranty, this benefit can help you get it extended by up to 1 year.

Security Features

  • Zero Liability Coverage – If your Rogers World Elite Mastercard is used by an unauthorized party, you won’t be held liable for any debts that weren’t your fault.
  • Balance Protection – The Group Balance Protection Insurance program covers you and your loved ones if an unforeseen event causes you to miss payments.
  • Transaction Monitoring & Fraud Alerts – This Mastercard can also help you automatically detect any unauthorized usage and prevent identity fraud.

The Cost of Owning a Rogers World Elite Mastercard

Although some credit cards may come with fabulous benefits, it’s essential to consider the potential costs before you sign up for one and the Rogers World Elite Mastercard is no exception. Here are some of the costs you may encounter when you own this card:

  • Annual Fee – The Rogers World Elite Mastercard has no annual fee, which is a major perk considering all other benefits you receive with the card.
  • Interest Rate –  A rate of 19.99% will apply to your purchases. Your account can also generate interest with every late, incomplete, or missed payment.
  • Cash Advance & Balance Transfer Rate –  When performing a cash advance or balance transfer, a rate of 22.99% of the transaction amount will apply.
  • Extra Card Fee – Some credit card providers will charge you to replace lost or stolen cards, which is not the case with the Rogers World Elite Mastercard.
  • Penalties – Like any credit card, failing to pay at least your minimum monthly balance can lead to late fees and (eventually) debt collection consequences.

Which Credit Users Are Eligible For the Rogers World Elite Mastercard?

It’s clear that the Rogers World Elite Mastercard comes with a lot of great benefits, including zero yearly activation fees. On the other hand, the general eligibility requirements can be slightly more restrictive than they are with other low-cost credit cards. Here are a few personal and financial elements that you’ll need to qualify:

  • Be past the age of majority in your province or territory (18 – 19+)
  • A minimum personal credit score of 725 – 759
  • A minimum personal income of $80,000 yearly
  • A minimum household income of $150,000 yearly
  • Required to spend at least $15,000 annually to keep the card

Essentially, there’s a reason this credit card is labelled as “Elite”. You may find it hard to qualify if you have a low to moderate-income, weak credit or prior problems with unpaid debts. Then again, this can be the case with many types of traditional credit cards.

Rogers World Elite Mastercard FAQS

How can I redeem my cash back dollars?

Once you start using your Rogers World Elite Mastercard regularly, there are several ways to redeem your cash back dollars, including but not restricted to:
  • Using The Mastercard Pay With Rewards Feature – Using the mobile app or online portal, you can manually or automatically apply your cash back dollars to qualifying purchases after at least 90 days of using your Rogers World Elite Mastercard. The minimum amount that you must redeem at one time is $20.
  • Making a Request – Cash back rewards can be redeemed for a statement credit against services and products from Rogers, chatr, and Fido. They can also be applied to everyday purchases, like gas and groceries. If you contact Rogers before December 1st, they can apply the rewards to your January balance.

Does the Rogers World Elite Mastercard come with FX fees?

When travelling outside of Canada, chances are you’ll have to pay a standard rate of 2.5% on any foreign transactions you make with the Rogers World Elite Mastercard. However, when you make purchases in U.S. dollars, you will receive 3% cash back, along with an additional 0.5% in rewards, which should cover your FX fees.

If I spend $15,000 a year, how much will I earn back in cash back dollars?

If you were to use your Rogers World Elite Mastercard to spend the minimum activation amount of $15,000 annually and add the standard 1.5% return that you normally get on qualifying purchases, you should make about $225 a year in cash back rewards.

Who is The Rogers World Elite Mastercard Right For?

Despite all the benefits of the Rogers World Elite Mastercard, it may not be the right credit card for you. In reality, this particular card is meant for people who spend more than $15,000 per year, have a relatively high personal/household income and credit score or frequently make purchases in U.S. dollars.
