Find A LenderSpeedy Cash: Overview
Speedy Cash is a payday lender that has been serving Canadians since 2009. They offer borrowers payday loans between $100 to $1,500, with no credit check, and you can apply online or walk into one of its 18 locations across Canada.
Are You The Right Borrower For Speedy Cash?
A payday loan from Speedy Cash could be a good fit for you if:
- You have a small emergency expense. A payday loan is built to cover a short gap when small financial emergencies pop up.
- You can pay it back by your next payday, without needing to borrow again to cover it.
- Bad credit has been limiting your options. There is no credit check, so approval rests on your income and your bank account instead of your credit history.

- E-Transfer Funding – If you apply online, your money can be sent to you by e-transfer the same day you are approved, so there is nowhere you need to go to collect it.
- Instant Debit Card Funding – If you need to spend the money right away, Speedy Cash can load it straight onto your debit card instead. It is the quickest of the funding options.
- Cash In A Store – If you would rather not wait on a transfer at all, you can apply at one of the 18 stores and walk out with cash in hand. Most online lenders cannot do that for you.

How To Apply
You can apply online or in a store, and the loan and the cost are the same either way. Online, you set up an account first and then work through a short series of screens.
Before you start, Speedy Cash asks you to have these ready:
- Two pieces of government issued ID, one of them photo ID
- A cheque or a pre-authorized debit form
- A bank statement covering 30 to 60 days from the date you apply
- Proof of address
- Your most recent pay stub
Requirements can vary by store, so if you are applying in person it is worth calling ahead to check what that location needs.
- Must be at least 8 characters long
- Must contain a special character
- Must contain an upper case letter
- Must contain a number
- Passwords must match
Is Speedy Cash Licensed?
Payday lending is licensed province by province, and the licence is specific to payday lending rather than to consumer lending generally.
What Customers Say
Two very different pictures, depending on which source you read.
Claimed since May 2018, paid subscription. 86% are five star.
The lowest rating the BBB issues. Six complaints closed in three years, and five went unanswered.
Speedy Cash does not appear in the Canadian Lenders Association directory.
Speedy Cash Pros
- No credit check. Your credit score does not decide whether you are approved, which is the entire reason the product exists.
- Fast. Funds by e-transfer, instant debit card funding, or cash in a branch the same day.
- Branches you can walk into. 19 or more across Canada, which is rare in a market that has moved almost entirely online.
- The price is published plainly. $14 per $100, with a worked example and the APR stated. Provincial rules require this, and Speedy Cash complies clearly.
- Accepts benefit income, including child tax benefit and pension, which many lenders will not.
- Licensed and long established. Operating in Canada since 2009, with a confirmed Alberta payday licence.
Speedy Cash Cons
- 365% APR. This is the most expensive way to borrow legally in Canada, by a wide margin.
- An F rating from the Better Business Bureau, with five of six complaints left unanswered.
- Not CLA certified.
- Short term by design. The full balance plus the fee comes out on your next payday, which is what causes repeat borrowing.
- No phone number confirmed on the website. Support is by email or in branch.
- Borrowing against benefits is offered, which widens access but concentrates the cost on the people least able to carry it.
When Speedy Cash Makes Sense
Tick all five and a payday loan is a defensible choice. If any are missing, it is worth pausing before you apply.
Payday Loan Alternatives
Before you apply, it is worth spending a few minutes on the options below. Every one of them costs you less than $14 per $100 over two weeks, and two of them cost nothing at all. Some will not be open to you, and that is fine, but you will not know until you ask.
Ask Your Employer For A Payroll Advance
This is the one people forget, and it is usually free. Plenty of employers will advance you part of a paycheque you have already earned, with no fee attached. It is your own money, just paid to you a couple of weeks early. Speak to whoever handles payroll where you work, and ask what their policy is. The worst you will hear is no.
Ask The Biller For More Time
If you are borrowing to cover a bill, start with the company sending it. Utilities, landlords and phone providers very often have hardship arrangements or payment plans that they do not advertise anywhere. A phone call costs you nothing, and people are frequently surprised by how willing a biller is to move a due date rather than lose the payment altogether. Try this before you take on a loan at 365% just to pay them.
An Installment Loan From An Alternative Lender
If you need longer than one pay period to clear this, an installment loan is worth looking at. Ordinary consumer lending is capped at 35% APR under federal law, while payday lending is exempt from that cap, and the difference in what you pay is not small. Borrow $300 over the same two weeks at 35% APR and it costs you roughly $4, against $42 here. You will need to pass a credit check, so this one depends on where your credit sits.
Overdraft On Your Chequing Account
If your bank will approve it, overdraft protection usually runs about $5 a month plus around 21% interest on what you actually use. For a small shortfall that you clear in a few days, that works out far cheaper than a payday loan. It is worth calling your bank to ask, and it is worth setting up before you need it, since it is there the next time money runs short.
