Find A LenderAimFinance: Overview
If you live in Ontario and you need a few hundred dollars in a hurry, AimFinance is worth a look. They lend $100 to $1,000 online, at interest rates between 29% and 35%, and you pay it back in installments over time instead of all at once on your next payday.
That difference matters. The amounts are payday loan sized, but the interest is a small fraction of what a payday lender charges, and you get months to clear it instead of two weeks. If you have been leaning on payday loans, this is the type of loan to understand first.
Is AimFinance Legit?
Yes. AimFinance holds a money lender permit and a high-cost credit merchant permit from Quebec’s Office de la protection du consommateur. They publish their interest rate range up front and charge nothing to apply.
Are You The Right Borrower For AimFinance?
AimFinance can be a good fit for you if:
- You want to avoid relying on payday loans – You get more time to pay, it costs you a lot less, and you can still borrow as little as you need.
- You do not have good credit – AimFinance accepts imperfect credit, and it accepts benefits income and retirement income, not just employment income. So if a bank has turned you down over your credit score, or another lender has refused you because you are on a benefit or drawing a pension, you have a genuine shot here.
- You have had a payment bounce on you before – Your installments are scheduled around the days your income lands, instead of a fixed date in the month. If you have ever been caught by a payment going out before your pay came in, and paid an NSF fee as a result, this is a detail worth paying attention to.
What We Verified
These are the points we could stand behind after checking the regulator registers and AimFinance’s own published terms.
What We Verified
Last checked 8 Oct 2026What They Offer
AimFinance offers a single product, a small installment loan, and that is it. No line of credit and no credit builder product.
Personal Installment Loan
29% to 35% interestA small unsecured loan you pay back in installments rather than all at once. No documents to send in, and nothing to pay to apply.
Loan Features
- Your payments follow your paycheques – Installments are scheduled around the days your income lands, not a fixed date in the month. The money comes out when it is there, which prevents a lot of bounced payments.
- Nothing to scan or fax – No pay stubs, no printed statements. You connect your account once through their verification partner and the paperwork is done.
- Paying it off early is free – No penalty, no fee, no catch. Put any spare money against this loan when you have it, because at these rates finishing early saves you more than anything else you can do.
- An account portal – You log in with your mobile number and a code they text you. From there you can see your balance, your payment schedule and your agreement, make an extra payment, or clear the loan in full.
- You can borrow again once you are nearly clear – Paid off, or down to your last payment? You can apply again. What you cannot do is roll one loan straight into the next, which keeps you from stacking debt on debt.
How Fast You Get Your Money
Here is how the timing works.
| Stage | How long it takes |
|---|---|
| Filling in the application | A few minutes, online only |
| When you can apply | 24 hours a day, 7 days a week |
| Hearing back | By email or text shortly after you submit |
| Getting the money | Usually within a few hours of approval, up to 24 hours |
| How it arrives | Interac e-Transfer or direct deposit (EFT) |
The form never closes. The phone line does, Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm ET. So if your application needs a person to sort something out, a Saturday submission sits until Monday. Borrowing against a deadline? Apply on a weekday.

Income AimFinance Accepts
To qualify, your income has to be directly deposited into the bank account you apply with. Three kinds of income are accepted:
- Employment income
- Benefits income
- Retirement income
Plenty of small lenders will only look at a paycheque. So if you are on a benefit or drawing a pension and you have been turned away elsewhere, this is one worth your time.
The Rule That Catches People Out
Your bank account needs to have been open for 90 days or more. Recently switched banks? Wait it out, or apply with an older account that still receives your income. Check this before you fill anything in. It is the requirement most likely to stop an application that would otherwise sail through.
How To Apply
It all happens online. No phone applications, and no branch to walk into.
About Connecting Your Bank Account
Handing a lender access to your bank account is worth questioning, so here is what it does. The connection is read only. Nothing can be moved in or out. It confirms the account is yours, that it is active, and that your income is landing in it, which is what saves you digging out three months of statements. Most online lenders in Canada use the same handful of providers, so if you have borrowed online before, you have done this already.
What An AimFinance Loan Costs
AimFinance charges annual interest of 29% to 35%. Applying costs you nothing, and so does clearing the balance early. Where you land in that range comes down to your application.
In dollars, that range works out like this.
| You borrow | Over | Interest at 29% | Interest at 35% | Roughly what you repay |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $500 | 12 months | About $82 | About $100 | $582 to $600 |
| $500 | 18 months | About $123 | About $150 | $623 to $650 |
| $1,000 | 9 months | About $125 | About $151 | $1,125 to $1,151 |
| $1,000 | 12 months | About $164 | About $200 | $1,164 to $1,200 |
| $1,000 | 24 months | About $330 | About $404 | $1,330 to $1,404 |
Note
These numbers are for illustrative purposes only. Actual numbers may vary.
A returned payment also brings an NSF fee, charged on top of whatever your own bank charges you. Ask for the total cost of credit in writing and read the payment schedule in your agreement before you sign.
How That Stacks Up Against A Payday Loan
This is the choice a lot of people are really weighing up.
Borrow $500 from a payday lender in Ontario and it costs you $70 for fourteen days. Borrow $500 from AimFinance at 35% and it costs you about $100, but you get a year to pay it back.
So the payday loan only wins if you clear it on your next payday and never go back. If you expect to be at the counter again in a month, the installment loan costs you far less.
Is AimFinance Licensed?
AimFinance is run out of a head office in Mont-Royal, Quebec, and lends online into Ontario.
That third row is not a gap. Ontario has no licence category for a lender this size, so there is nothing to look up. What protects you is federal law. Since 1 January 2025 the criminal interest rate has been 35% APR, and AimFinance’s published maximum sits right on that line. Ontario’s Consumer Protection Act also means they have to put the full cost of your credit in writing before you sign. Read that document.
Cheaper Places To Look First
29% to 35% beats a payday loan by a mile, but it is still close to the top of what any lender in Canada may legally charge. Spend ten minutes on the list below first. A couple of these can be arranged the same day.
Start With Your Own Bank Or Credit Union
Credit unions in particular will lend small personal loans to members whose credit is thin, and their rates sit in the single digits to high teens. On $1,000 over a year that is roughly $100 of interest against roughly $200. The trade off is speed, since you are waiting days rather than hours, so make this your first call if the money is not needed today.
A Card You Already Carry
If you have any room left on a credit card, use that before you take out a loan. A purchase on a card at 22.99% costs you nothing at all if you clear it inside the grace period, and even carrying it for a few months beats 35%. A cash advance is the pricier version, since interest starts the same day and there is a flat fee, but it still comes in under a loan at the legal ceiling.
Overdraft Protection For A Short Gap
If you are covering a few hundred dollars for a week or two, overdraft is usually the cheapest tool you have. It runs about $5 a month plus roughly 21% on the amount you use, and because it charges by the day, a short gap costs very little. Most banks can add it to a chequing account you already hold, often straight away.
Ask The Biller Before You Ask A Lender
When one specific bill is behind all this, go to the company that sent it first. Hydro providers, landlords, insurers, phone carriers and dental offices move due dates and break payments into pieces every day of the week, and asking costs you nothing. Do it before the date passes, because once an account is late you are negotiating from a weaker spot.
Earned Wage Access Through Work
More and more Canadian employers now let you take some of your wages before payday for hours you have already put in, either through payroll itself or an app the company has signed up to. Fees are small or nothing at all. Find out whether yours offers it, because this is the one option on the list that is not borrowing.
AimFinance Pros
- The price is nowhere near payday loan territory – 29% to 35% against the $14 per $100 a payday lender charges, for a similar amount of money.
- You get months, not one paycheque – Smaller installments spread over time, instead of the whole balance plus a fee vanishing on your next payday.
- Payments land when you do – Installments are timed to your income deposits, so the money comes out when it is in your account.
- Imperfect credit is accepted – A rough patch in your history does not rule you out on its own.
- Benefit and retirement income are accepted – Employment income is not the only option, so a benefit or a pension can support an application here.
- Nothing to pay up front, nothing to pay to finish early – No application fee, and no penalty if you clear the balance ahead of schedule.
- No paperwork – Connecting your bank replaces pay stubs and statements, so most applications need no documents at all.
- Open all night – You can apply at any hour, and the money often arrives within a few hours of approval.
- An account portal – Check your balance, see your schedule, read your agreement and pay the loan off, all without picking up the phone.
AimFinance Cons
- $1,000 is as high as it goes – Enough for a repair or a bill, but not enough for a larger debt consolidation.
- The rate sits at the legal maximum – 35% is the federal criminal interest rate, so the top of this range is as high as any lender in Canada can legally charge you.
- Ontario only – If you live anywhere else, this one is not available to you yet.
- You need at least $1,200 a month coming in – And it has to arrive by direct deposit, so being paid in cash rules you out.
- Your bank account has to be 90 days old – A recent switch can stop an application in its tracks.
- There is very little independent feedback – Trustpilot shows 2.8 out of 5 from only 6 reviews, and there is no Better Business Bureau file. Six reviews tells you almost nothing either way, and it is all there is.
- NSF fees apply – A returned payment costs you, and the amount is not published up front, so ask.
- Support keeps office hours – The form never closes, but nobody picks up the phone at the weekend.
