About Cheyenne Schmidt-Harlick

Cheyenne Schmidt-Harlick is a third-year Honours Bachelor’s student at York University, majoring in Psychology with a minor in Indigenous Studies. Having grown up in a financially unstable environment, Cheyenne developed a strong commitment to financial literacy, which has played a pivotal role in her academic journey. She employs detailed budgeting, consistent saving, and proactive debt management to support her education and minimize financial stress. Balancing part-time work, summer savings, and side hustles such as tutoring, Cheyenne has been able to fund essential expenses while prioritizing early loan repayments to reduce interest accumulation.

Cheyenne’s leadership roles, including President of the Indigenous Students’ Association at York and her work as a Student Health Ambassador, reflect her dedication to fostering education and community support. She has hosted financial literacy workshops to help peers develop skills in budgeting, saving, and debt management. Scholarships have been vital in her success, alleviating financial pressures and enabling her to focus on her studies and career aspirations.

As an aspiring Indigenous high school teacher, Cheyenne plans to integrate financial literacy into her teaching, equipping future generations with the tools to achieve financial stability and success.
