We couldn’t be more excited to announce that the winner of our Summer 2023 Financial Literacy Scholarship is Wonu Adelusi.
About Wonu
Financial literacy to me has made three significant impacts on my life in terms of freedom, planning, and access. Regarding freedom, I believe gaining knowledge creates opportunity, and the more you know, the more opportunities become available to you. Due to this, I am currently studying Integrated Business and Humanities at McMaster University, where I have been exposed to a plethora of financial literacy workshops, courses, and clubs that work with students like myself to allow us better to understand this gatekept secret of money management. Therefore, being financially literate to me has given me the freedom to take control of my future career and financial goals.
That’s where the planning comes in. When one has adept knowledge in budgeting or personal finance management, they become more secure in the long run. I have been able to set goals and targets for my future because of these skills.
Lastly, and probably most importantly, access– sharing that knowledge and those tips with others. Working with Penny Drops opened me up to these opportunities and I hope to dedicate my undergraduate degree and the following career to extending this knowledge to marginalized communities and those who are disproportionately affected by financial illiteracy.
