Today we’re happy to announce the winner of our Loans Canada Financial Literacy Scholarship for Spring 2022. Continuing to help Canadian students meet both their educational and financial goals, through our scholarship, is a project the entire Loans Canada team is really proud of.

We couldn’t be more excited to announce that the winner of our Spring 2022 Financial Literacy Scholarship is Chelsea MacBean. Chelsea is a commerce student at Dalhousie University, majoring in accounting.

Chelsea MacBean

About Chelsea

I am a commerce student at Dalhousie University, majoring in accounting. My understanding of financial literacy has enabled me to further my studies and advance my professional development. I started learning about financial literacy when I accepted an extracurricular position as a general member of PennyDrops non-profit. This organization focuses on educating youth on the importance of financial knowledge and how they can leverage these tools to set themselves up for success. I harvested the skills I had learned over my involvement in PennyDrops and decided that I would start a side hustle to help pay down the cost of my tuition. I launched a virtual thrift shop to help embrace my passion for sustainable fashion. Typically, second-hand clothing is thought of as dull and outdated. My store focused on sustainably sourcing stylish pieces and marketing them in a way that youth could connect with. My understanding of budgeting, cost management and business practices helped drive my business to success.
