Two students in Canada are now $750 richer. We’re excited to announce the winners of the 2023 Loans Canada x KOHO Financial Literacy scholarship.

Congratulations to Sydney Powers of Prince Edward Island and Heather Small of Ontario – the recipients of the 2023 Fall Loans Canada x KOHO scholarship.

About Sydney Powers

Sydney Powers is currently completing her undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Prince Edward Island. She plans to go on to medical school to be a psychiatrist.

Whether it’s working several jobs, healthy credit habits, earning scholarships, or her tax-free savings account. Sydney has always pursued it all to alleviate the financial stress of being a student. Proactive financing thinking has given her the privilege of living without financial strain, allowing Sydney to “confidently plan for the future.”

In short, Sydney is a great example of how thinking ahead as a student, can set up strong pillars for a financially secure future.

About Heather Small

Heather Small is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Social Work at Wilfrid Laurier University. However, she is passionate about access to financial knowledge. Her children motivate her to teach the importance of financial literacy, just like her parents taught her.

Furthermore, Heather understands the “differences within socio-economic challenges” and strives to “support individuals that are challenged within it.” Heather uses her financial knowledge to help struggling community members explore and utilize “all possible financial solutions”. Whether it’s advocating for low-income housing, or researching what financial subsidies and programs are available; Heather is passionate about access for all.

Loans Canada x KOHO Financial Literacy Scholarship

The Loans Canada Financial Literacy Scholarship began in 2020. This year, it partnered with KOHO to double the impact by awarding $1,500 per semester to two students registered for post-secondary education in Canada. That’s $3,000 toward offsetting the costs of higher education.

Missed Out?

Those interested in applying for the Loans Canada scholarship can still do so. The Loans Canada x KOHO scholarship for winter 2024 opens on October 1st, 2023 and closes on December 31, 2023. The winner will be announced in early January.
